Raising awareness for the protection of the rhino.

Protecting nature’s treasures

The rhino is a creature of beauty and magnificence, however it’s a creature that is being pushed towards extinction as rhino populations across Africa are in critical danger. It’s important that we protect rhinos so future generations can continue to enjoy them and all of nature’s treasures. Thanks to the actions of determined conservationists and everyday individuals who are getting behind this cause, global rhino populations are on the rise, but further action is needed to ensure that this is continued.

The name rhinoceros means ‘nose horn’ and is often shortened to rhino. It comes from the Greek words rhino (nose) and ceros (horn).

Rhinos can live as long as 40 or 50 years.

60,000 years ago, in the Paleolithic period, rhinos roamed London, when England was a cold, dry desert.

Three of the five living rhinoceros species are critically endangered, meaning that if the current rate of loss continues, rhinos could become extinct within 15 years.

Together with Tusk

The rhino is a magnificent creature and a gift of nature that Forevermark is committed to protecting for future generations. To celebrate this incredible species and raise awareness of the critical threat facing them, Forevermark is proud to deepen its partnership with Tusk to support rhino conservation projects in southern Africa.

In 2019, as part of our ongoing commitment to protecting nature’s beauty for future generations and our continued support of Tusk, Forevermark has donated £40,000 to Tusk to reinforce anti-poaching activities and rhino conservation efforts carried out by the Southern African Wildlife College in South Africa and Save the Rhino Trust in Namibia. Through this donation Forevermark aims to raise awareness of the critical threat to rhinos and of Tusk’s incredible work in southern Africa.

It’s estimated there are 4,800 black rhino and 20,000 white rhinos remaining in the wild in Africa so as part of Forevermark’s commitment to protecting rhino habitats and species forever, Forevermark hopes that this donation will help to strengthen and improve anti-poaching activities and rhino conservation efforts carried out by both projects.

We’re at a crisis point where the threat to rhino from poaching means a very real risk of losing this near prehistoric species forever to extinction. They’re a timely reminder of just how beautiful and fragile the natural world and its resources can be – and of just what can be achieved when committed companies work together to protect them.

Save the Rhino Trust

Tusk’s support of Save the Rhino Trust’s anti-poaching efforts in Namibia has helped them curb a recent upsurge in poaching, but as the threat escalates, this effort must be sustained. The donation provided by Forevermark to Save the Rhino Trust will contribute towards ongoing monitoring of the black rhino population by vehicle, foot and air and anti-poaching patrols.

Southern Africa Wildlife College

Tusk is a long-term partner of the Southern African Wildlife College (SAWC), which specialises in training wildlife professionals (many of whom are rangers) for South Africa and other southern African countries to deal with the challenges facing conservation today. The donation provided by Forevermark is being used to anchor SAWC’s four-tiered approach specifically to address rhino protection, comprising of ranger training, an aerial surveillance and monitoring unit, a canine unit and community engagement and intelligence gathering.

With the support from Forevermark we can make sure that your grandchildren will also be able to see black rhino in the wild.

Tusk Rhino Trail 2018

In 2018, Forevermark was honoured to participate in the Tusk Rhino Trail to raise awareness of the critical threat facing rhinos. The trail concluded with the celebration of World Rhino Day on the 22nd September 2018, after which each of the unique artworks were sold at auction in aid of Tusk. The sculptures made an extraordinary £624,000 at auction, and every penny raised from the auction will go directly to support Tusk’s conservation work across Africa, including their efforts to tackle rhino poaching and illegal wildlife trade.

‘Fragile’ by Dave White

In support of Tusk and the trail, Forevermark was proud to partner with contemporary British artist Dave White, who dedicates his artwork to celebrating popular culture and interpreting emotive issues. When talking about his rhino design, titled ‘Fragile’, White says:

“Reflecting a realistic vision from a distance, with an abstraction of expressive paint marks upon closer viewing, my work represents the fragile balance of order and chaos in the natural world and the impact that we are having on our environment. I hope that by inspiring generations of all ages with this project, it will be one small positive step to support Tusk in their vital work protecting endangered species.”

…my work represents the fragile balance of order and chaos in the natural world and the impact that we are having on our environment.
